PATERSON, NJ - Community leaders and volunteers joined together recently for a cleanup at the Paterson Skate Park. The cleanups have become a monthly occurrence, taking place across the city in an effort to keep the community clean.

“I think it’s a good thing, showing the children that you really have to keep your surroundings—your world—clean,” said David of Paterson Community Solutions. “If everybody joined in, it could impact it in a good way. I think this is something that should go on a lot more.”

Volunteers included several students from John P. Holland Charter School, members  of Paterson Community Solutions, and other organizations.

“Well, I drive through Paterson all the time. I live in Haledon, and there’s a lot of trash on the floor, so it’s polluting,” said Brian of Climate Change Revolution NJ. “I mean, the pollution affects our groundwater, it affects the animals, it affects our own health. So, I like to believe that hope is contagious and that if everything is clean, then maybe we’ll keep it clean. People are coming out and cleaning the community; then maybe more people will get involved and take pride in our city.”

The next cleanup will take place October 11, 2025. To volunteer, please sign up here.
